The Venture Center took the lead on creating and hosting an extremely successful Virtual Congressional FinTech Roundtable yesterday.
The event, hosted on Google Hangouts and broadcast live on YouTube, took place live at The Venture Center.
A panel that included Rep. French Hill of Arkansas, Collins Andrews, and Mike Montgomery launched the discussion which was moderated by Gary Dowdy. Rep. Ann Wagner of Missouri joined FinTech founders Chris Rentner of Akouba and Yogesh Pandit of Hexanika (both participated in this summer's VC FinTech Accelerator)
The discussion focused on the impact of regulation in financial services on innovation. Both Rep. Hill and Rep. Wagner sit on the House Financial Services Committee and offered unique perspectives on the balance between the need for regulation and the freedom of startup founders and entrepreneurs to innovate.
Rentner and Pandit offered insights into the real-world impact of regulation on the development of a new venture with Rentner saying that his firm has invested over a million dollars preparing to be compliant and to get to market. Pandit offered perspectives from a firm looking to streamline the regulatory burden that lies on financial institutions.
The Roundtable provided a robust and profitable dialogue. We look forward to hosting additional Congressional Roundtable discussions in 2017.
