Following the launch of the nation’s first lithium technology accelerator, The Venture Center showcases how cross-sector collaboration is powering America’s energy future

Little Rock, Ark. [October 29, 2025] – More than 800 energy industry executives, investors, and policymakers convened this week for the Second Arkansas Lithium Innovation Summit, reinforcing Arkansas’ growing reputation as a national hub for lithium development and battery technology innovation. The Venture Center, a key driver in the state’s lithium innovation ecosystem, played a prominent role throughout the two-day event, hosting a VIP networking reception for summit participants and leading a panel on the nation’s first lithium technology accelerator.

In July of this year, The Venture Center launched the Arkansas Lithium Technology Accelerator (ALTA), the first U.S.-based accelerator dedicated to lithium and battery supply chain innovation. Developed in partnership with Standard Lithium, the University of Arkansas, South Arkansas College, Southern Arkansas University, and supported by the Walton Family Foundation, the three-week program connects global startups with Arkansas-based producers, researchers, and policymakers to advance next-generation energy solutions. ALTA’s mission is to position Arkansas as the epicenter of lithium technology innovation and strengthen U.S. leadership in sustainable battery production.

The Summit’s second day featured a Main Stage panel discussion moderated by The Venture Center’s executive director, Arthur Orduña. The session, titled “Accelerating Lithium Innovation: Inside the Arkansas Lithium Technology Accelerator,” brought together leading experts from ALTA’s inaugural cohort and key industry partners to discuss how accelerator-driven collaboration is shaping the state’s lithium and energy technology landscape.

Panelists included:

  • Ryan Jansonius, Vice President of Chemistry Contract Services, PhD, Telescope Innovations
  • Andrew Muckstadt, Vice President of Business Development, Nano One
  • Dr. Lynn Rouse, Technology Strategy Manager, Chevron
  • Darrell Pennington, Vice President & Chief Technology Officer, RAM Geothermal
  • Jesse Edmondson, Director of Government Relations, Standard Lithium

Together, the group explored early outcomes of the accelerator’s pilot engagements, emphasizing the importance of cross-sector collaboration between global innovators and Arkansas-based producers. The discussion underscored how Arkansas’ unique ecosystem—spanning research universities, private industry, and entrepreneurial support organizations—positions the state as a national leader in lithium production and technology innovation.

Speaking about the accelerator’s inaugural cohort, Orduña said, “The long-term goal is to view the supply chain ecosystem as a true community. These are the first members of that community. Each cohort will want to get to know one another—their technologies may be competitive or complementary—but together, they’ll help us grow as a supply chain epicenter.”

The Venture Center’s presence at the Summit extended beyond the stage. On the evening of Day One, the organization hosted a private VIP networking reception that brought together Summit speakers, state officials, and energy industry leaders. The reception celebrated Arkansas’ rapid progress in the lithium sector and the partnerships driving innovation across the state’s growing energy ecosystem. Attendees included representatives from Standard Lithium, Chevron, Nano One, RAM Geothermal, Telescope Innovations, and the Arkansas Department of Commerce, among others.

“It’s a global market. Because it’s a global market, we have to be globally competitive,” Edmondson said. “I think innovation is really key to keep us competitive. Whether it’s new innovations or optimizing a process that’s already going to be effective, maybe more environmentally friendly, more cost friendly… We want the best technology, no matter what that is.”

As The Venture Center prepares to launch the second cohort of the Arkansas Lithium Technology Accelerator in December, the organization remains focused on sustaining this momentum and deepening partnerships that drive innovation, investment, and long-term economic impact across the state.
