A decade of cybersecurity competition returns April 24-26 in Little Rock, challenging participants to defend against modern, AI-driven threats.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (April 15, 2026) – The Venture Center is marking a milestone year with the 10th annual JOLT Cyber Challenge, taking place April  24-26, 2026, at University of Arkansas Little Rock’s Reynolds Business Building.

Celebrating a decade of hands-on cybersecurity training, JOLT has evolved alongside the industry itself. This year’s competition introduces a timely new scenario: the rapid rise of artificial intelligence inside a scaling tech company — and the vulnerabilities that come with it.

The 2026 challenge continues last year’s storyline, where the once-scrappy social platform Jitter has now been acquired and rebranded as “J.” With its new AI system, jAI, at the center of operations, participants will face the consequences of fast growth, legacy systems, and high-stakes automation.

Teams of four will work through an intensive weekend of challenges designed to reflect how modern organizations actually break and how defenders respond in real time.

“Whether you’re just starting and looking to dive in, an experienced competitor looking to compete against the area’s best, or just need a fun weekend, JOLT has a place for you,” said Jeff Bailey, director of IT and information security at Apptegy and one of the competition’s lead designers (also known as game makers). “From discovering new tools and creative ways to use them to enjoying good food and great vibes, JOLT is here to connect you with like-minded folks and showcase our awesome local cybersecurity community.”

JOLT blends traditional capture-the-flag gameplay with real-world cybersecurity training. Participants will tackle Jeopardy-style challenges across key areas, including:

Web and application vulnerabilities
Reverse engineering
Cryptography and encoding
Infrastructure and systems security
Incident response and adversarial thinking

The addition of AI-focused elements introduces new layers of complexity, requiring competitors to evaluate trust, automation, and unintended consequences in evolving systems.

Open to high school students, college students, and professionals, JOLT continues to serve as one of Arkansas’ leading cybersecurity workforce development events. More than 100 participants are expected to compete, collaborate, and connect with mentors and industry leaders throughout the weekend.

“JOLT is one of our most impactful programs because it creates a space where learning, competition, and community all happen at once,” said Ashley Jones, vice president of programs and operations at The Venture Center. “Over the past 10 years, we’ve seen it grow into a powerful pipeline for tech talent across Arkansas.”

Registration includes full participation in the competition, six meals plus snacks and drinks, access to technical mentors, and opportunities to explore cybersecurity tools, techniques, and career pathways.

Teams can register at venturecenter.co/JOLT. Early registrants will receive an exclusive 10th anniversary JOLT T-shirt.
