Name: Sia Cunnings | Business/Profession: Virtual Accountant & Tax Advisor, Sia N. Cunnings, LLC

Please share a little about your background, personally and/or professionally.

I’m a mom of two little girls, ages 5 and 2. I’m married to a Little Rock Police officer for 4 years. I am born and raised in Little Rock. I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas with a BA in Business Administration with an emphasis on accounting. After 3 years of college, I went straight into my desired field of work in January 2013, and I remained there until December 2021.

Please share about your business, where it’s located, and what led you to starting it.

I have an accounting business where I provide accounting and financial services for individuals and businesses. I am virtually located in Little Rock, but am considering a physical location. I still want to be virtual, but I just need to get out of my house. I started my business full time after the birth of my 2nd child. I wanted the freedom being independent brought. I wanted to be present for my children full time and not be tied down to a time clock or worried about PTO/’vacation time/sick time.

What goals do you hope to achieve for your business during your time in VCWoman Achieve?

I’m hoping to find good connections. Connections to help me advance my business to the next level.

What drew you to being part of a mentorship group specifically curated for non-men? How has being a woman or non-binary individual impacted your journey as an entrepreneur?

Honestly, seeing some classmates and other social media friends post and talk about it, it looked like something I wanted to be a part of. I do feel like as a woman, I’ve had to prove myself more times than male counterparts. Then add being a woman of color, it can be exhausting, but I’ve always stayed true to myself. I figure whoever wants to work with me will and if they don’t, it’s their loss. When I first stepped out on my own, I was very concerned with being the face of my own business because I feared no one would want to work with me if they knew who I really was (a black woman). That approached back fired. Now I just show up as I am, and I get the results I want (for the most part).

What are three things you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love trying new restaurants and coffee shops. I love going to the movie theatre and eating “movie popcorn.’ I also enjoy going to the spa.

What is your favorite part about being an entrepreneur?

My favorite part hands down is the freedom. I am able to be present for my girls and my family as a whole. I also love the fact that I get to choose who I work with. Those two are equal for me.
