Welcome to our Spark! Meet the Founder series, where we introduce you to the amazing entrepreneurs who are participating in our 2022 Spring Spark! program with a quick Q&A!

Spark! is a small business accelerator that puts the right people, opportunities, and access in place for local entrepreneurs in Arkansas to take their venture to the next level.

Please meet Allicia Adams-Talbert, founder of Talbert Lawn Services, which provides landscaping services in Central Arkansas and specializes in second-chance employment opportunities for people with felony background records.

The Venture Center: Why did you start Talbert Lawn Services?

Allicia Adams-Talbert: Talbert Lawn Services provides superior landscaping and groundskeeping services in Little Rock, Arkansas and surrounding counties. We offer second chance employment opportunities for people who have felony background records.

I created the business in 2015 as a way to help my husband gain employment. He has a 20 year old felony record that prevented him from getting a job, so I started the lawn service as a way for him to become financially independent without working for anyone else.

What are your biggest challenges as a business owner?

There are many obstacles for me as an owner and operator of a landscaping company. The landscaping industry is primarily male dominated and I have seen very few women besides myself actually cutting grass for a living. Raising capital is another huge obstacle that I face as a minority and woman owned company.

What do you hope for the future of Talbert Lawn Services?

I hope that our business lays the foundation for generational wealth for our family for years to come.

What are you proudest of so far?

I am so proud of my husband for never giving up, even when things looked impossible. I’m proud of my business for enduring 8 years, especially during the pandemic.

What do you hope to gain from Spark!?

I hope to gain more knowledge about scaling the business and learning more pitch techniques for upcoming events.

Huge thanks to Allicia-Adams Talbert  for participating in Spark! We can’t wait to see your business grow!
