Please share more about your current position and place of work. How have you grown professionally/personally in this role?
I am the CEO/Founder of Lime Group Consulting, and I am a business and automation consultant. I have grown so much, as entrepreneurship is filled with daily lessons that you address, learn, and grow from. I have learned to bet on myself, trust in myself, and have learned that taking risk is necessary. On the other side of taking a risk and overcoming fear is growth and success. I have learned to be comfortable with saying no and to be told no. I am thankful for the experience that I gained from my education and mostly from working in leadership in corporate, as I have been able to take that experience of being a black, female, leader in a male-dominated industry and create my own lane. In my business, I’ve learned that if I help another business grow that will in turn have an economical and societal impact, then we will all grow.
What drew you to being a mentor for an entrepreneurial group curated for non-men? How has being a woman or non-binary individual impacted your professional journey?
I’ve operated in a male-dominated tech industry for a while, and I’ve learned to navigate those spaces well. Both in corporate and when transitioning to entrepreneurship. Women face many challenges in business including acquiring clients and especially securing capital. Currently, only 2% of venture capital funds go to women founders. I want to be able to share my knowledge from my experience and help the next woman have a successful business.
What are three things you enjoy doing outside of work?
I enjoy reading, spending time with my dog, my nieces and nephews, and I love fashion, so I like to go shopping at consignment stores.
What is your go-to piece of advice for professionals, entrepreneurs, or anyone looking to you for guidance?
These 3 things will get you the furthest in life: Self-awareness, humility, and intellectual curiosity.
What is a professional achievement that you are most proud of, and why are you proud of it?
My greatest professional achievement was being able to acquire my first client within my first 90 days of business. I was proud of that because I know the stats for small businesses, how long it takes to be profitable, and the low rate of success. I’m aware that can be considered uncommon, especially for a service business. I was also proud to complete my MBA program in 10 months.
