The Venture Center: What major changes has your company experienced throughout this year-long program?

Kim Herrington:

This program helped my company grow our team and revenue to hit our goals at the beginning of the year this year. It’s also helped me transition from working in the business as much to working on the company so it can grow and be more profitable.

What value has this mentorship program brought to you both personally and professionally?

My mentor helped guide me through promoting my first manager and training so that it freed up my time and guided me through decisions on the future of my company. Taking a step back and looking at my business from a 3,000-foot perspective also helped me see changes I needed to make professionally that would positively impact my personal life.

What’s your favorite piece of advice that you received while in this program?

The overall experience of walking through challenges and my mentor asking questions to help guide my thought processes was the best part of my mentoring experience. It reminded me that I have strong instincts I can rely on.

What advice would you give to those interested in applying for this program?

Be clear in your application about your business’s challenges and what you’re looking for mentoring to help you do. Going into it with clear and specific goals will help you get a better mentor match and ensure you get the most out of the program.
