The Venture Center: What major changes has your company experienced throughout this year-long program?

Miya Blackmon:

During this year-long program, our company has undergone significant transformations. Firstly, we achieved remarkable success, marking our best season to date. Our efforts in building relationships and securing new sponsors have propelled our business forward. Additionally, we have successfully expanded our fan base, increasing our reach and impact in the market.

What value has the mentorship program brought to you both personally and professionally?

Personally, this mentorship program has been incredibly valuable to me. Through my interactions with my mentor, Ashley, I have formed a deep and lasting friendship. We share many similarities and have grown to understand and support each other beyond the confines of the program. Professionally, this program has enhanced my skills and capabilities, particularly in the areas of public speaking and interpersonal communication. I feel more confident and adept at engaging with people from diverse backgrounds.

What’s your favorite piece of advice that you received while in this program?

One of the most impactful pieces of advice I received during this program is to never be afraid to ask. Recognizing that the worst outcome is a simple “no,” this advice has empowered me to be more proactive and assertive in seeking opportunities, partnerships, and collaborations. It has allowed me to overcome hesitation and take bold steps towards my goals.
